Wushu performance by Sungai Long Wushu Club members

UTAR Sungai Long Wushu Club organised a concert called ‘炬武 ROMAN 2.0’ on 17 June 2018 at Sungai Long Campus. The name ROMAN 2.0 refers to the “Reunion of Martial Arts Night 2.0” and it emphasises on the strong spirit and vitality of martial arts.

Organised for the second time on campus, the event aimed to gather and reunite all branches of martial arts present in UTAR, including Sanda, Karate-Do, Wushu and Lion Dance. It planned to spread the culture of martial art to UTAR students, staff and the surrounding communities. Moreover, the event also aimed to bring out the spiritual aspects of martial art, which brought the audience closer and developed a better understanding of the different types of martial arts. The night witnessed various exciting performances, all lined up for the audience to experience the atmosphere of martial arts.

ROMAN 2.0 was graced by UTAR Chancellor Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and his spouse Toh Puan Ena Ling, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Coach for Persatuan Shao Teck San Pagoh Venerable Sek Meow Di, General Secretary Wong Kim Swee representing the President of the Wushu Federation of Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur , Wushu Coach Master Lai Kong Wai representing the President of the Federation of Wushu Associations of Selangor, ROMAN 2.0-cum-UTAR Sungai Long Wushu Club Chairperson Lee Shone Kin and Vice Chairperson Sia Ann Yee.

“I am impressed with the club’s use of their talent and creativity in creating meaningful event that benefits the society and perhaps the nation,” said Prof Ewe during the opening ceremony. He continued, “Learning martial art is not easy. It takes strength, time and perseverance but it is a healthy activity for youths and a good use of time for recreational activities. Besides, it is also promoting good discipline and composure which is really good training for youths.”

Lee thanked all the committee members for their efforts and time in making ROMAN 2.0 a success. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone for their kind support and presence. He mentioned that he wished to further develop and promote Wushu martial art to all the people through ROMAN 2.0. Meantime, he also hoped the audiences enjoyed themselves and left the event with a deep impression.

The event commenced with exciting performances, namely Luminous Lion Dance, LED Dragon Dance, Face Changing, Karate, Wing Chun and a special performance from Master Lai. It was then followed by 3 historical dramas, titled Bloody Moon, The Club and Mortal Combat.

The event also saw Wushu committee members performing a song titled “Daddy” (父亲), in conjunction with the celebration of Father’s Day which fell on the same day.
