Visit by CMQIP

UTAR welcomed visitors from China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) at Sungai Long Campus on 1 March 2018 to discuss potential collaborations.

Present were Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Department of Commerce and Port Office Deputy Director General Tan Xiuhong; Department of Commerce, Division of ASEAN Affairs Director Zhu Lei; CMQIP General Office Deputy Director Lan Jie; CMQIP Administrative committee Gao Faying and Hong Xinlu.

Receiving the visitors on behalf of UTAR were its President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, Division of Community and International Networking (DCInternet)-cum-Institute of Management and Leadership Development Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, and DCInternet Deputy Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn.

During the discussion, both parties shared their respective concerns to enhance mutual understanding between one another. In his speech, Prof Chuah referred to the history of contacts between China and the University and cordially invited the visitors to visit the other UTAR campus which is located in Kampar, Perak. He also mentioned that Malaysia has comparative advantages in certain areas, such as cultural diversity and political stability, even though it is a relatively small country compared to other ASEAN countries. With that in mind, he developed recommendations on a potential collaboration with respect to both parties’ strength and pursued synergy and complementarity. “We look forward to seeing how this collaboration unfolds to foster greater possibilities in the future,” he said. 

Tan delivering her speech

On the other hand, Tan thanked UTAR for its warmest welcome and expressed her willingness to explore and concretize different possibilities with the university. “The situation is different now from the way it was in the past. The global marketplace has an enormous appetite for talent, particularly on skilled technical employees,” said Tan. She hoped that the collaboration could benefit both parties in term of knowledge sharing and workforce, which will then contribute to both countries.
