The SME representatives and UTAR staff
A dialogue session was held between UTAR and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) on 15 March 2018 at Sungai Long Campus. It was organised by the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM).
The dialogue was chaired by FAM Student Development and Industrial Training Deputy Dean Dr Chong Shyue Chuan, joined by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Student Development and Industrial Training Deputy Dean Dr Lim Jee Hock, Centre for Extension Education (CEE) Director Lim Guat Yen, CEE Business Development and Administration & Operation Unit Head Joleena Chong binti Mohamad Chong and UTAR staff.
Present at the dialogue were 13 representatives from different field of industry, namely Dynaton World Sdn Bhd Managing Director Alan Lim Kim Hin, Locus-T Online Sdn Bhd Head of Operations Deric Wong Wei Loong, MCE Holdings Bhd Managing Director Goh Kar Chun, HPMT Industries Sdn Bhd Chief Operating Officer Khoo Seng Giap, Maxi Stone Sdn Bhd Managing Director Lau Boon Liang, S & M Jewellery Enterprise (M) Sdn Bhd Executive Director Lee Kia How, Fifty Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Lee Siew Mui, Crown Venture Holdings Sdn Bhd Managing Director Ong Fock Tick, Kasut U Sdn Bhd Managing Director Raymond Gan, NESH Marketing Sdn Bhd Managing Director Soh Yok Kim, Dale Engineering Sdn Bhd Managing Director Teh Lai Tien, FMC Greenland Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Terry Lee Teck Tiong, Timuran Setia Industri Sdn Bhd Managing Director Yap Heng Or, and Vistage Malaysia Sdn Bhd Chair Loh Wei Hoong.

Dr Chong began the dialogue session by giving a brief introduction about UTAR. It included programmes offered by FAM, facilities available and student activities. It was followed by discussions on internship and employment opportunities for UTAR students with the SMEs. Among the highlights of the discussion were allowance allocation, the length of internship and UTAR graduates’ market value.
Other than that, Guat Yen also introduced the CEE to the representatives. She explained that CEE was established in response to the increasing demand for lifelong learning and the need to look beyond traditional and formal education. Services provided by CEE are public and corporate training, short courses and professional qualification programmes.
