YB Datuk Seri Wee hoped that the signing of the MoU will further strengthen the partnership and academic exchange between the two universities so that students can enhance their knowledge as well as broaden their worldview. “Most importantly, we can create a platform for the students to achieve their career goals and ultimately contribute to our society,” he said.
Prof Chuah
In his remarks, Prof Chuah said, “We believe international collaboration is very important for students to have exposure not only to the Southeast Asia and Malaysia but also to other parts of the world.” He added, “This MoU is vital to facilitate academic development and exchanges between two universities.”
He also stated that the UTAR hospital is currently in its planning stage and it will cater 250 beds for the western medical treatment in the first phase as well as separate facilities for the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and ayurvedic medicine. “We believe that western medicine along with traditional and complementary medicine from China and India will give alternative options to patients.”
Prof Clifford Chao
On the other hand, Prof Clifford Chao stated that the signing of the MoU carried a great symbolic meaning and signified a wonderful beginning of collaboration between the two universities. He pointed out that the partnership will not only expose students to TCM and western medicine field, but also provide a chance for them to be trained in medical centre or hospital.
When talked about the establishment of UTAR hospital, he also expressed his willingness to share their expertise and experiences with UTAR. “CMU has 60 years of history with a total of 14 hospitals and about five thousand beds. We can also work together in the aspect of hospital establishment besides collaborating in TCM,” he said.
The event ended on a high note with a souvenir presentation session, followed by a group photograph session.
