Artist speaks on dream and purpose

The Centre for Foundation Studies of Sungai Long Campus organised a talk titled “Dream and Purpose—Significant Key to Success” on 20 March 2018.

Tommy Chen was the speaker of the talk. The Malaysian Japanese Nishikigoi (koi fish) artist, also known as “Tommy McKoi”, is well-known for his passion for art and koi fish painting. The talk aimed to convey the message of love, joy, peace and hope through koi fish artworks. It was also set to inspire students to think differently about their life and encourage them to expand wider views in life beyond academic.

“Koi fish are determined, hopeful and joyful as they swim towards light in the water. Humans share a similar order and way of living in life. We continuously seek life purpose and dreams. Life purpose is a larger picture than pursuing a hobby or studying in the university. It involves our surroundings at a spiritual level. You fulfil your life purpose through the way you engage with the world.”

Speaking about his journey in chasing dreams, he cited from Walt Disney, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Chen said, “If you want to fulfil your dreams, you will need to establish goals to get you there. Be specific when you decide your dream and believe it is achievable. Ask for help when you need one, do not be shy. Adjust your lifestyle, share your dreams with people around, set a deadline, stay focused and keep working towards your dream.”  

He concluded his talk saying, “Life is an art. Find your life purpose and make it your masterpiece. Embrace your true potential and create your dream life.”
