Visit by SHUTCM

SHUTCM visitors with UTAR staff

Visitors from the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM) visited Kampar Campus on 14 May 2018.

Welcoming the visitors were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences’ (FMHS) Head of Chinese Medicine Department Dr Te Kian Keong. Among the visitors were Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Personnel Department Li Wei, Vice President of SHUTCM Wang Yongjun, SHUTCM Vice Dean of International Education College Chen Yi and President of Ushine (overseas) Chinese Course Center Huang Hao.

The visit aimed to build rapport between UTAR and SHUTCM in order to promote mutual understanding and discuss opportunities for future collaboration between both institutions in the aspect of student and staff exchange programmes and future joint research collaborations on Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).

The meeting commenced with the presentation of UTAR’s corporate video and Prof Choong’s welcoming address. Prof Choong addressed the guests and gave a brief introduction of UTAR, “UTAR is a not-for-profit and comprehensive University.It has made remarkable achievements since its establishment.”

Dr Te introduced the development of TCM Education in Malaysia and the TCM programme offered by UTAR, including its advantages and features, teaching team, student enrolment, facilities, community activities, competitions and international collaborations. He revealed, “End of last year, UTAR collaborated with Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine to set up the China-Malaysia Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine to provide an integrative platform in combining medicine, healthcare, education, scientific research, cultural exchange and industry of TCM.”

Wang thanked UTAR for the warm welcome and look forward to the collaboration between SHUTCM and UTAR and next exchange meeting on practical collaboration.

The meeting ended with a group photography session and a souvenir presentation session, which was a remark on friendly exchanges between both institutions.

The visitors took the opportunity to visit several other attractive spots in the Campus during the campus tour. The campus tour was led by Prof Choong.

SHUTCM was established in the year 1956 and was one of the first four TCM colleges established across China. Located in the innovative Zhangjiang Free Trade Zone, SHUTCM is a research-oriented educational institution with distinctive features and collaborative outreach.
