Prof Faidz during the talk
Aimed to brief and update the UTAR academics and staff on the progress of UTAR’s 10-Year Strategic Plan (2013-2022), Division of Strategy Planning, Performance Monitoring and Audit successfully organised a talk titled “Progressive UTAR: The Strategic Plan” at both UTAR Kampar and Sungai Long Campuses on 14 and 15 May 2018 respectively.
Delivered by the Chairman of the Strategic Monitoring and Risk Management Committee Prof Dr Faidz Abd Rahman, the talk enlightened the participants on the eight focused areas as well as the 25 strategies that are implemented under the UTAR’s 10-Year Strategic Plan (2013-2022).
Prof Faidz introduced, “UTAR was established in 2002 and the successes achieved so far were founded on the dedication of the Board of Trustees, University Council and all levels of UTAR Management and Staff, coupled with strong support from the students, the alumni and the public.”
He added, “The UTAR’s 10-Year Strategic Plan (2013-2022) aims to steer UTAR towards the direction of excellence in the world stage through globalisation and diversification while succeeding in providing quality education in a pragmatic and responsible manner to all its stakeholders. All important areas must be covered to ensure that development covers the whole spectrum of university functions essential for the attainment of its vision to be a global university of educational excellence with transformative societal impact.

Among the eight focused areas were Governance, Academic Programmes, Research and Development, Collaborations and Internationalisation, Staff Development, Student Development, Facilities and Services, and Community. Strategies for each focused area were formulated and a total of 25 strategies were identified to ensure UTAR’s education system is relevant in today’s competitive tertiary education industry.
UTAR’s strength and its achievements were also highlighted at the talk. Other than that, areas of improvement and UTAR’s current progress were also discussed. “This is a 10-year plan and we are already halfway through. I must say that we have made a good progress despite the short period of time. However, it is important that we do not grow to be lukewarm and be contented with this growth. We should strive for more!”
He also emphasised to UTAR academics and staff to provide constructive feedback and suggestions in order to improve the strategic planning to be in line with the emerging education platform. The talk ended with an interactive Q&A session with a discussion on the prospective aspects toward educational excellence.
