Enlightening participants with tips on investing was speaker and UTAR alumnus Eason Chong, who spoke at the investment talk titled “Using Minimum Capital to Maximize Your Investment Return”. The talk was organised by the Centre for Extension Education (CEE) on 19 October 2018 at Kampar Campus.

As part of the investment talk series, the talk by Chong aimed to enrich participants’ knowledge on investment and provide a platform to inquire and seek knowledge from the speaker. The founder of the company, ZFelites shared his investing journey and the different stages involved in investing. He also gave advice on what preparation should be done for students who wish to balance their time between investing and studying. His advice also included ways of utilising minimum resources for investing and ways of using technology and software for investing.

He began by defining the meaning of investment and mentioned that investments can consist of investors or traders. To differentiate, he explained that traders make short-term investment that involves, higher costs and risks with returns that are dependent on the market trend and its volatility. Meanwhile, investors make long-term investments, which involves lower costs and risks and yields higher returns.

On using minimum capital to maximise returns, Chong explained that the secret to proper financial management is to use at least 10 percent of one’s salary for investment purpose. According to Chong, investment can help to beat inflation, build passive income and generate compound interest. However, he reminded participants that investment takes time and is a skill that if one does it often, will enable the individual to be more prepared and knowledgeable. He also advised participants to choose wisely on the type of companies or platforms that they would like to invest in and to study the companies’ financial performance. He emphasised that investment is also about finding a good company for investing, having good financial management and choosing companies with products that are available nationwide.

Towards the end of the talk, he encouraged interested participants to ask him questions about investing. The talk then ended with Q&A session and token of appreciation was given to Chong by CEE Head of Department Mohd Faizul bin Ahmad.
