The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised an educational trip to Quality Coils Industries Sdn Bhd, a mosquito coil manufacturing company at Mambang Diawan, Kampar for the second time on 13 October 2018.
The trip saw the participation of 39 students. They were accompanied by CFS (Kampar Campus) Deputy Director Lim Khiew Loon and lecturers Yip Mei Theen, Hazel Lim Hui Ling, Lim Kun Yin, Yuvashini Salvamani and Chew Kai Chin. The aim of the trip was to allow students to gain insights into the manufacturing process of mosquito coils and the management system of the company.
Upon arriving, the participants were invited to the conference room to view a slideshow of the factory’s workflow and facilities. From the presentation, the participants learnt the overall production process of mosquito coils; it began with the process of dry blending, followed by kneading, extruding, stamping, drying, packing and finally quality assurance checking. After the demonstration, they visited the factory to learn the procedures of making mosquito coils.
Apart from visiting the factory, the participants also enjoyed the sharing session conducted by Assistant General Manager Ng Jun Kee and General Manager Wong Hon Kai. Ng shared some valuable insights about the industry such as the future of coils industry and its challenges. Meanwhile, Wong shared his work experience and the factors that motivated him to serve longer in the company.
A fun activity was also conducted to test the participants’ critical thinking. The participants were divided into eight groups and were given 15 minutes to discuss on a topic; the future design of mosquito coils. They were required to display their ideas on a piece of paper and present it to the judges within three minutes. Three best groups were selected and prizes were awarded by Wong to the winners. Lim then presented a token of appreciation to Wong.
