UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) and Centre for Foundation Studies of Sungai Long Campus (CFS) joined hands to organise the “Charity Bazaar Shuang Yi Nin 11.11(远航双依您义卖会)” Community Project together with SJK (C) Bandar Sungai Long on 11 November 2018. This was the second time for UTAR to collaborate with the school for the charity bazaar.
The objective of the project was to raise funds to build a roof-covered basketball court, a badminton court and a waiting area for the transportation pick-up for SJK (C) Bandar Sungai Long students. With the funds collected from last year’s charity bazaar, the school has made rapid progress in providing continuous improvement to the facilities such as the library, science laboratory, music room, sports equipment, counselling and remedial classrooms, canteen and other amenities.

UTAR students helping out with various activities
During the event day, the students were segregated into six categories with different roles, including groceries, food and merchandises; games; logistic; souvenirs; redemption counter and coupon tellers. They were very dedicated and committed in their work. They helped to load the stocks, place the price tags, arrange the items at the respective stalls and attract the buyers in order to generate more sales. The participants, especially the younger kids, were entertained with various game booths that gave out prizes ranging from smaller prizes such as stationery items to larger prizes such as giant teddy bears. Moreover, the event also saw two lucky draw sessions for the participants.
The Headmaster Tay Yuh Tzong and PIBG Chairman Lee Kok Hoon thanked UTAR lecturers and students for their astounding support. The school teachers also praised the students for their hard work and commitment. Despite the exhaustion, the students were proud to be part of this meaningful event to help the school and the community in Sungai Long as a whole.
