Beneficial learning experience for RUC

The Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD) hosted a group of students from Renmin University of China (RUC) at Sungai Long Campus from 30 September 2018 to 7 October 2018. The group was led by RUC’s International Office Deputy Director Qi Yue and Programme Coordinator Feng Yan.

The eight-day study visit offered various activities for RUC students, including visits to Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC) and Wisma Hua Zhong. It also included a historical tour to Malacca and special lecture to enrich their understanding of Malaysia’s culture and economic development.

The closing ceremony was held on 4 October 2018, where all participating students from RUC were presented with a certificate for their participation in the programme. Speaking at the ceremony, Belt and Road Strategic Research Centre Chairperson-cum-IMLD Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu shared a brief background of the University and she cordially invited the students from RUC to have another visit to Kampar Campus in the future. On the other hand, Qi thanked UTAR for the sincere reception and for giving the opportunity to feel the culture of Malaysia. He said that it was a meaningful and memorable trip for the students as it provided meaningful insights and practical learning experience outside of the classroom. On behalf of RUC, he invited UTAR students to make a return visit to their University.

In addition, the RUC students also shared their views about the study visit during the ceremony. Li Bolin, one of visiting students, said the programme was very impressive because he was able to experience the cultural and natural attractions of Malaysia through various activities. While visiting students Kuang Xiaolu and Du Xinlei commented that Malaysia is a nation that is harmonious, multicultural and multi-ethnic. They also feel that mutual understanding between both sides could help further research and professional development.

Describing Malaysia as “the most conversant stranger” for China, visiting student Li Ruizhe pointed out the significance of Belt and Road Initiative, and believed that this programme could contribute positively and promote a strong relationship between these two countries. Sharing the experience about the site visits was another student, Wu Aijing who said that the trip gave her an insight into the Malaysian industry and development. “This study visit was the most valuable learning experience I have gained in Malaysia,” she said.
