UTAR students from the Management of Sports Activity (MPU34132) organised two community outreach programmes at Tanjung Tualang from 25 to 26 August 2018.
The first-day activity saw a three-on-three Basketball Competition titled “Teamwork makes Dream Work” at SJK (C) Thung Hon. On the following day, the students were engaged in another community outreach programme titled “Exploring Tanjung Tualang” at My Prawn Village. Besides promoting the attractions of Tanjung Tualang New Village, the competition also aimed to encourage participants from different schools to get to know each other and promote healthy lifestyles.
A total of eight schools participated in the basketball competition, namely SJK(C) Lawan Kuda, SJK (C) Kampung Bali, SJK (C) Kampung Timah, SJK (C) Jeram, SJK (C) New Kopisan, SJK (C) Pei Yuan, SJK (C) Thung Hon, Chenderong and SJK (C) Thung Hon, Tg Tualang. There were four categories in the competition, which were Male (Under 11), Male (Under 12), Female (Under 11) and Female (Under 12). After the briefing, the competition was carried out simultaneously, and the grading system was categorised using the point system where each team will play in the same category, and the highest two will then compete for the Champion. The competition came to a halt at 2 pm. It was followed by a prize-giving ceremony.
One the second day, an opening ceremony was held and it was officiated by UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations (SDAR) Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong. The students then participated in a three-kilometre walk around the housing area until they reached My Prawn Village. Meantime, they also engaged in multiple activities such as fun fair, exhibitions and photo taking competition. A lucky draw session was held during the closing ceremony and it saw participants walking away with attractive prizes.
The programme aimed to educate students on how to organise an event as a team. Apart from that, the programme also aimed to generate awareness among the students about their roles in handling their tasks efficiently for a wonderful outcome.
