UTAR officially inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 1 April 2019.
The MoU aimed to initiate joint projects and collaborative research in training related to caregiving and therapy, and share expertise. It also aimed to facilitate exchanges of ideas and facilities among the parties, including attachments and mutual visits by staff members to pursue research and curriculum development, and to participate in seminars, conferences and workshops. The MoU will also facilitate industrial study visits of UTAR undergraduate and postgraduate students for the purpose of enhancing the learning experience, professional development and curriculum development, and facilitate industrial placement of UTAR students.
Signing on behalf of UTAR was its President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, while My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd was represented by its CEO-cum-Co-founder Martin Yap Lu Hoong. It was witnessed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat and My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd CTO-cum-Co-founder Justin Yap Woon Bin.
Also present at the signing ceremony were My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd Chief Strategy Officer Anna Chew, My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd senior lecturers Lee Wai Keey and Kehn Cristobal, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng, Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Centre for Extension Education (CEE) Director Lim Guat Yen, Head of Nursing Department Liew Siew Fun, Head of Chinese Medicine Department Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, CEE Head of Business Development and Administration and Operation Unit Joleena Chong binti Mohamad Chong and FMHS Department of Nursing Lecturer Choo Peak Yean.

Prof Chuah welcomed the delegates and said, “This MoU is very timely because it does not only train the nurses, but also UTAR MBBS students, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, physiotherapists, psychologists and psychiatrists to cater to the needs of this ageing population. It will also allow the students and staff to learn and experience the complexities and challenges of human care. I also hope this collaboration will open up more job opportunities for our students. This is about the time for us to have more collaborations with the local companies so that our students can stay and contribute to Malaysia instead of moving overseas for better career opportunities.”
Martin Yap
Martin Yap said, “There are many more things to come and there are many other opportunities to look forward to including enhancing the research environment of the Gaming and Virtual Reality department. We can look at these opportunities to push the boundaries in terms of how we can actually help out the elderly and provide career opportunities for the students as well. Hence, I am anticipating and looking forward to our success as we go through this journey together.”
A token of appreciation was presented by Prof Chuah to Martin Yap. It was followed by a discussion and a photography session before the ceremony ended.
