UTAR and GUFE ink pact to explore collaboration opportunities

UTAR and Guangxi University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) officially inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 29 April 2019 at Sungai Long Campus.

Signing on behalf of UTAR was its President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, witnessed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat; while GUFE was represented by its President Xia Fei, witnessed by School of Accounting and Auditing Dean Li Chunyou.

The signing ceremony was also done in the presence of UTAR Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Dr Pok Wei Fong, Department of Economics Head Sia Bik Kai, GUFE School of Finance and Public Administration Dean Meng Qiang, School of Economics and Trade Dean Tang Hongxiang and Liao Jintao from International Exchange Division.

Also joining the ceremony via video conference from Kampar Campus were Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) Dean Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, FBF Lecturers Dr Tan Kock Lim, Cheah Chee Keong, Jireh Chan Yi-Le, Koh Chin Min, Kalai Vani Kalimuthu, Lee Chin Yu, Thurai Murugan Nathan, Chan Ling Meng, Fong Chee Yang and Lai Ka Fei.

Delivering his speech, Prof Chuah first gave a brief introduction about UTAR. He said, even though it has only been 17 years since its establishment, the University strives to enhance the quality of education and has taken various initiatives to complement its educational excellence. He also mentioned the recent news regarding the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, saying that the historical friendship between the two countries has laid a solid foundation for the current and future development of friendly cooperative relations.

He also stressed on the importance of the cooperation agreements and shared the past collaborations of the University with various parties such as Tianjin University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Renmin University of China, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Jiangsu Normal University, Hua Wei, Alibaba and Mango Entertainment.

On the other hand, Xia praised the excellent achievement by UTAR and expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome given by the University. He noted that the signing of the MoU would enhance greater cooperation between the two sides especially in terms of sharing common interests, and he proposed a number of potential collaborative areas such as international conferences, research, academic collaboration and student development activities. He also cordially invited the delegates of UTAR to visit GUFE and expressed his hope to work closely with UTAR to inspire and further enhance the learning experience of staff and students in their respective fields.

The event then ended with a souvenir exchange between Prof Chuah and Xia, followed by a group photography session.
