A joint effort by UTAR Bachelor of Communication (Hons) Public Relations (PR) students and Majlis Daerah Kampar saw the community enjoying their outdoors at Taman Rekreasi Kamparonce more when they conducted a beautifying project at the recreational park on 23 March 2019.

In the spirit of giving back to the community, the team cleaned the park, including removing any hazardous items to ensure that the park is safe, especially for children. It was also an effort by the PR students to fulfil the requirements of the subject UAMP3084 Corporate Social Responsibility.

A representative of Majlis Daerah Kampar, Julya Zurina binti Johari, was also present and thanked the students for their help to clean and beautify the park. The project also received sponsorship from Man Tong Hardware and Machinery (Kampar) Sdn Bhd, who sponsored the team paints. The representative of Man Tong Hardware and Machinery, Cheng Yoke Sim, also mentioned that the company has been supporting students’ event through sponsorship for many years. “We are happy to be a part of the effort in giving back to the community and helping what we can to make their lives better. This is indeed a noble deed and a good example for the younger generation, so that this noble cause can be continued in years to come,” said Cheng.

Some of the local residents also participated in the project, including Wong, who, in his 60’s, came with his grandson to help with the cleaning. “I am very happy to see the students care for the environment. Even if it is just cleaning and beautifying the park, it is still a good initiative for the community and the environment. The students are also setting a good role model for the younger generation, like my grandson, and perhaps inspiring them to do the same in the future. I hope this effort will continue,” said Wong.

Another resident, Shanti, also commented, “Now the park is clean again, we can come to the park more frequently to exercise. The project conducted by the students is very meaningful. I am happy that the students are playing their part for the environment and contributing to the society.”
