Exploring collaboration opportunities with CMQIP

UTAR welcomed a group of delegates from China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) at Sungai Long Campus on 8 August 2019 to discuss avenue of possible exchanges and collaboration in training.

The delegates were CMQIP Administration Committee Deputy Director Mo Fuwen, Planning Development Executive Director Yang Xiqiang, Land and Municipal Planning Deputy Director Yang Jianbang, Financial Development Executive Director Wen Jiaqing, Foreign Affairs Outreach Department Executive Director Li Zhi, Social Service Director Wu Dong, Deputy Division Chief of Organizational Personnel Office Gong Weixin, Administrative Examination and Approval Executive Director Ke Jun, CMQIP (Guangxi) Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd. Construction Management Department Assistant Li Yong, CMQIP (Guangxi) Jingu Investment Co., Ltd. General Management Department Manager Tan Hong, CMQIP (Guangxi) Merchants Service Co., Ltd. General Manager Liang Wei, China-Malaysia (Guangxi) International Consulting Co., Ltd. Deputy General Manager Yang Jiazheng and CMQIP (Guangxi) Industrial Platform Investment Co., Ltd Investment Department Manager Zhang Jian.

On hand to receive the delegates were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD) Director-cum-Belt and Road Strategic Research Centre Chairperson Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu and Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn.

In the mid of the meeting

During the discussion, Prof Chuah first welcomed the delegates and gave a brief introduction about the University’s background. He explained the education system in Malaysia and said that the country has its own characteristics and unique features because of its diversity of races, religions and cultures. “Different countries have different beliefs, values and legislation. Exchanges and experience sharing, therefore, are important to promote mutual understanding and friendship among countries.” He suggested several possible areas of cooperation such as Islamic banking, halal food, accounting and English courses.

He also mentioned about the importance of cultural intelligence and soft skills and expressed his hope to have greater collaboration with CMQIP for mutual benefits. He believed that the exchanges and collaboration could provide a good opportunity for students and staff to enhance their horizon and learning experience.

Mo, on the other hand, explained the development of CMQIP and showed their interests to know more about Malaysia’s perspective, particularly in the aspect of Belt and Road Initiative. He hoped that an appropriate platform could be created to provide an in-depth understanding of Malaysia, which could promote more collaborative activities in the areas of mutual interest.

The talk then ended with a souvenir exchange between Prof Chuah and Mo, followed by a group photography session.
