UTAR Career Day was held on 1 August 2019 at Sungai Long Campus. The event was organised by the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement.
Organisations from various sectors were invited to set up exhibition booths to provide information on job availability and present job market to the graduating students of UTAR. The students were also given a chance to attend interviews on the spot. There were 80 participating companies including BIZACADEMIA SDN BHD, JOBSTREET.COM and LION GROUP, to name a few.
The event not only witnessed final year students but also fresh graduates who came to find their dream job.

Royal Bank of Canada Human Resource Manager Kavitha Sukumaran said, “This is our first time participating in this career fair. We came here to provide job opportunities for graduates and internship opportunities for final year students. We expect students to have good communication skills, willingness to learn and self-confidence. We also expect them to know the background of our company. Good communication is what you need to join our company.”

“Basically we are looking for engineers, specifically site engineers who have a major in civil and construction. As for fresh graduates, we expect them to work hard and they must be willing to work in overseas since we are based in Singapore. Studies and work-life are totally different so we are expecting those who would contribute to our company,” said Welltech Construction Project Director Kenny Ching.

“We are from a construction-based company. We expect students to have sufficient knowledge in the field of construction. The students are also expected to have good relationship with other staff and they must adapt to the company’s culture,” said Zhongji Construction Sdn Bhd Human Resource Manager Tan Xin Ci.

Press Metal Human Resource Executive Yeow Beng Wee said, “UTAR is one of the universities we have visited in Malaysia. We are mainly looking for engineering students. We are looking for students who are majoring in Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering. However, it depends on their willingness to join us as we are based in Klang as well as Sarawak. We will provide them with accommodation and fresh graduates will be sent for job training to learn and adapt to the environment. We expect them to work hard and never give up.”

“Our company chose UTAR because it matches the target audience of today’s career day which is Accounting and Engineering students. We expect students to have a good personality and attitude, as well as knowledge. The students must be willing to learn and explore,” said LBS Bina Group Berhad Human Resource Executive Cory Chen Shi Yong.

Comerge Solutions Sdn Bhd Office Manager Peter Hwang said, “This is our second time being here at UTAR; we visited earlier this April. We are looking for Software Developers, also known as programmers since our company is only doing software developments. We expect our interviewees to have a major in Computer Science or Software Engineering. However, students from other courses are welcome to join as well as long they have interest and passion for developing software. They can join as a junior software developer and give it a try. Since our company is from Switzerland, we focus and emphasise on the balance of work-life and human rights.”

“I found my ideal company here which is LTS Distribution (M) Sdn Bhd. It is related to my course which is supply chain management,” said International Business graduate Lim Jun Yi. “I find this career day very beneficial. So far, I have no chosen any companies yet. I need more time to figure out since there is many to choose from. I am interested in multinational companies so I will choose wisely when I get home,” said Mechanical Engineering graduate Tay Chih Chis. Year Four Bachelor of Accounting student Fam Ken Rei said, “I am an Accounting student and this career day is useful for me because I get to choose from a variety of companies.”
