A training session on creating social media content was conducted by Weibo International (China) and WebTVAsia at UTAR Multipurpose Hall of Sungai Long Campus on 10 July 2019.
The training aimed to provide UTAR students with some insights on how to become a successful YouTuber or content creator besides enhancing their knowledge in that area. It also aimed to provide a platform for them to catch up with the fast-growing media and entertainment industry. Moreover, it provided an opportunity for the students to venture into the China market and encouraged them to achieve their dream of becoming a successful social media content creator and producer.
Present at the event were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, WebTVAsia Greater China Chief Executive Officer Lee Hua Ling, General Manager of Weibo International Jennie So, UTAR staff and students.

Invited to deliver talks at the event were WebTVAsia Senior Vice President of International Business and Marketing Goay Chia Chia, Director of International Business Development Zhou Xin Ni, Weibo International Senior Business Manager Zhang Yen and Senior Coordinator Chen Hai Ying.
In her talk, Goay shared the tactics of generating more views for a video and explained the important elements of video creation such as content length and title setting. “If you want your videos to get more views and greater search results, you must first have a good idea to create great content for the video,” she said. She suggested the beginners to begin with Vlog, saying that many successful YouTubers usually begin their video by making Vlog on YouTube.
Zhang, on the other hand, gave a brief introduction about Weibo, one of the biggest social media platforms in China, and its current development. According to her, Weibo is China’s most dominant source of news content and it has a profound social impact in its country. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Zhang said Weibo is now making an effort to look abroad.
Chen, in his talk, explained the trend and the current situation of Vlog. He also shared the characteristics of the Vlog tohelp participants understand more about this powerful tool. “Malaysia is a multiracial and multilingual country with a rich historical heritage. There would be many more netizens who would want to know more about Malaysia,” he said, adding that Vblog is a good platform to reach a larger audience.
In order to enhance the participants’ overall understanding of the market, Zhou explained the current situation and the consumption trends of short videos. According to her, short video market in China experienced an explosive growth of 744.7 percent from 2017 to 2018. She also talked about the role of multi-channel network (MCN), explaining how it could provide assistance to content creators to grow further and succeed.

The hall saw a big turnout of participants for the event. Phei Yong and Chang Yong, two talented YouTubers, who are widely known in Malaysia also attended the event. Interacting with the participants enthusiastically, they inspired the participants with their personal stories and experiences. They also encouraged the participants to do the things that they enjoy and work hard to achieve their dreams.

The sharing session then ended on a high note with a Q&A session, followed by a group photography session.
WebTVAsia is a leading Asian media entertainment group with production studios and digital networks. It is presently partnering with Weibo International to give training sessions to Malaysian university students about social media market trends, skills and career opportunities in social media user-generated content such as Vlog.
