UTAR, YMUN sign MoU to explore more collaboration opportunities

UTAR and Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities (YMUN) officially exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Sungai Long Campus on 1 July 2019, marking the start of another step forward in providing the best collaboration opportunities for both institutions.

The delegates from YMUN were its President Yao Jinguang, the Affiliated Hospital of YMUN Director Tang Yujin, Faculty of Nursing Dean Wei Guiyuan, Faculty of Preclinical Medicine Dean Liu Yunguang and Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Wei Xianggang. They were accompanied by Unicell Bio Med Sdn Bhd Director Saw Lie Lie and Managing Director Tsoi Liu.

Welcoming them were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences’ (FMHS) Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Prof Dr Ng Teck Han and Department of Chinese Medicine lecturer Ooi Ciat Hui.

Delivering his welcome remarks, Prof Ewe first introduced the background and the current development of the University. He shared the past collaboration of UTAR and explained that the University had been focusing on internationalisation through collaboration with other institutions worldwide in order to enhance and ensure the quality of higher education and research. He said, though UTAR was a young university, it has developed swiftly in these years. He also explained that FMHS has a short history of 10 years and that the University is presently building a training hospital in Kampar.

Yao, on the other hand, expressed his appreciation to UTAR for providing the opportunity to explore the possible collaboration for mutual benefits. He presented the progress of YMUN since its establishment in the year 1958 and shared some of its great achievements. He also emphasisedon the main focus of YMUN and expressed his hope to have more collaboration opportunities such as mutual recognition of postgraduate studies.

The event then ended with an exchange of MoU documents and a souvenir presentation between both parties, followed by a group photography session.
