Visits promote positive interdependence between universities

Delegates from three universities, namely Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) of China, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) of Taiwan and Jiangsu University of Technology (JSUT) of China visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus recently.

WUST visited Sungai Long Campus on 5 July 2019. Present were WUST Deputy Party Secretary Sun Guosheng, Prof Zheng Pengfei, Director of Academic Affairs Office Cheng Guangwen, International School Party Secretary Xiao Qiaoling and Deputy Director of International Relations Office Luo Yuanping. They were accompanied by agent Joshua Zhang.

Welcoming the delegates on behalf of UTAR were its Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ir Dr Goi Bok Min, Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Ts Assoc Prof Dr Yap Wun She, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Chairperson for Centre for Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine-cum-Head of Department of Chinese Medicine Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong and Faculty of Accountancy and Management Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Foo Meow Yee.

Delegates from YunTech also visited Sungai Long Campus on 5 July 2019. Present were Office of International Affairs Dean Prof Tseng Shi-Chang, College of Design Dean Prof Hwang Shyh-Huei, Director of Art Center Prof Kuo Shih-Mou, Director of Center for Hakka Studies Assoc Prof Huang Yen-Ming, Head of Department of Visual Communication Design Assoc Prof Liao Chih-Chung, Head of Department of Creative Design Prof Cheng Yueh-Hsiu, Administrative Officer for Visual Communication Design Tsai Pei-Shan, Specialist for Office of International Affairs Lin Hsin-Yi, Administrative Assistant for Creative Design Chuang Ying-Tsan and Administrative Assistant for Architectural and Interior Design Lin Yu-Wen.

The delegates from JSUT visited Sungai Long Campus on 8 July 2019. JSUT delegates consist of its Vice President Zhou Lanzhen, School of Humanities Dean Sima Zhou, School of Education Vice Dean Wu Jihui, Deputy Director of Department of Teaching Affairs Hu Bing, Mathematics Professor Shi Biao and Deputy Chief of Foreign Affairs Section of International Cooperation and Exchange Office-cum-Interpreter Zhang Ping.

Welcoming the delegates on behalf of UTAR were Prof Ewe, Dr Lai, Prof Goi, LKC FES Head of Department of Mathematical and Actuarial Sciences Dr Wong Voon Hee, FCI Head of Department of Multimedia Design and Animation Dr Yuen May Chan. Also joining from Kampar Campus via video conference were Faculty of Science Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lim Tuck Meng, Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Phoon Lee Quen, Head of Department of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Dr Lam Weng Hoe, Faculty of Arts and Social Science Head of Programme for BSocSc (Hons) Guidance and Counselling Pheh Kai Shuen, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Ir Dr Ng Choon Aun and Academics Dr Guo Xinxin and Ts Dr Toh Pek Lan.

The visits aimed to further explore the structures and programmes offered by the respective universities to its students through video and PowerPoint presentations. It also aimed to discuss possible cooperation in the future in terms of student exchange, study tour and internship programme. Also, it aimed to build rapport and promote mutual understanding between parties.
