With the aim to ensure UTAR students graduate with not only quality qualifications, but with the best possible careers and job opportunities, UTAR constantly provides a platform for its students to access and secure jobs with top local and international employers through its annual career fair and industrial day. This year, it staged another comeback with two mega career events running concurrently, namely UTAR Career Fair and FICT Industrial Exposure Day at Kampar Campus.

With the intention to provide an opportunity for UTAR students to meet with potential employers in an informal setting, and learn more about the job opportunities that await them in the employment market, UTAR Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP) successfully organised UTAR Career Day at its Kampar Campus on 10 July 2019. The career day was attended by more than 750 students.

Held bi-annually, the career day is organised every March and July and provides opportunity for employers to interview potential candidates instantaneously. The career day also acts as a platform that hopes to prepare students for interview sessions as well as helping them plan for their future career plans.

FICT Industrial Exposure Day

Meanwhile, UTAR FICT Industrial Exposure Day was organised with the aim to provide an opportunity for graduating students to meet and network with numerous Human Resource professionals and organisations and learn about job and internship opportunities. The career fair titled “FICT Industrial Exposure Day” was held from 10 to 12 July 2019 at its FICT Building of Kampar Campus.

Aimed at introducing prospective employers, especially from the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector to FICT and UTAR students, the three-day fair also provided a forum for students to experience real interviews. The forums were basically focused on e-commerce, data centre and cloud, big data analytics, artificial intelligence and internet of things.

FICT’s Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training-cum-Organising Chairperson of FICT Industrial Exposure Day Dr Choo Peng Yin enthused, “The main goal of this fair is to introduce prospective employers to our FICT students particularly to our final year students. We believe this fair could be a great avenue for UTAR students to have some real exposures on job interviews and to initiate the networking process between prospective graduates and prospective employers.” He added, “The fair also allows our students to showcase their skills and competencies to employers and it facilitates the opportunities for our students to gain employment.”

Apart from career and recruitment booths by prospective ICT employers, the fair also held a series of career and company talks for the students. Among the career talks conducted for students were “Programming Trend for Modern Business Software” by Auto Count, “AI - Are You Getting On The Trend?” by Original Intelligence, “Entrepreneurship Skills and Early Stage Start Up” by Internspoon, “Stepping into the future of work in Technology. Are you ready?” by NexPlatform, “Machine Learning in Image Classification” by InvenTech Solution, “The Blockchain” by PocoPoints, “Discover EY (Company Talk)” by Ernst & Young, “Intelligent Manufacturing for Industry 4.0” by Jin Long – Dong Chuang, Advanced Manufacturing, “Introduction to Docker Technology” by Jabil, “Industry 4.0: AI and Machine Vision Application” by ViTrox, “AI in the network security” by IP ServerOne, “From Business to System (FEITAS)” by GNEY Software, “Enhancing Customer Service Through Technology” by Longbow Solutions, and “Fintech and Digital Transformation” by Revenue Group.
