Wushu Study Tour to the Haikou University of Economics, China was jointly organised by UTAR and Haikou University of Economics (HUE), China from the 19 to 26 May 2019. This tour marks the very first outbound study tour for students from UTAR to HUE. A total of six students from UTAR Sungai Long Campus enrolled in this once-in-a-lifetime tour to learn from the best nation there is today about Wushu skills, Lion dance and Dragon skills.
The primary goal of this study tour was to allow UTAR students to learn, understand and at the same time improve their skills on Wushu, lion and dragon dance. It also aimed to encourage our students to build lifelong experiences and skills by learning and interacting with foreign coaches, lecturers and students. This study tour also enabled students to study and understand the history and origins of the Chinese culture such as the Lion and Dragon Dance.
The tour included various lectures on the origin and history of Chinese culture and martial arts, physical training session, Wushu skills training sessions, lion and dragon dance training sessions and Taichi health workshops.
UTAR students also had the opportunity to interact and train together with HUE students for a joint performance during the closing ceremony of the study tour. They performed Wushu taolu (Cha Quan), folding fan (Taiji Kungfu Fan) and dragon dance. The study tour provided a good platform for the students to explore and experience foreign cultures and skills.

Apart from all the training and study sessions, HUE also arranged a two-day visit to historical places and museums to broaden the students’ knowledge.
