Buck up confidence through self-defence skills

The Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) and UTAR Kampar Campus Aikido Club organised a talk titled “Self-Defense Awareness” on 27June 2019 at UTAR Kampar Campus.

Invited to deliver the talk were the instructors and members of Aikido Aikikai Ipoh Dojo, Daniel Wong Chong Hiong, Jacky Chan Zhen Jien and Kam Xoong Qin. A total of 37 participants consisting of UTAR staff and students attended the talk.

The objectives of the talk were to raise awareness on the importance of self-defence and to teach participants some basic self-defence techniques. Apart from that, the talk also aimed to boost confidence among participants and encourage them to be alert to their surroundings.

Wong began the session by highlighting the importance of self-defence and being aware of the surroundings. He then proceeded to explain the common physical attacks that one might encounter and how to neutralise the attacks. In addition, Chan and Kam demonstrated the techniques to counteract attacks. It was then quickly followed by a practical session where participants were requested to take part in practising the self-defence techniques.

Wong also shared some news on the rise of crime and illegal activities in Malaysia and reminded the participants of the importance of being mindful and conscious of the surrounding vicinity. He also encouraged the participants to practise self-defence techniques regularly in order to improve their skills and become physically trained to deal with dangerous situations in the most appropriate way.

The talk then ended with a group photography session.
