After succeeding the 2017/2018 batch of student leaders of UTAR Accounting Society (UAS), the current batch tirelessly prepared for the second convention called Accounting Ignition 2.0. This event was brought to life on 24 May 2019 to 25 May 2019 at Philea Mines Beach Resort, with the theme ‘Ignite Opportunities to Success’ and the slogan “Ignite, Propel and Accelerate”.
Staying true to their slogan and theme, the organising committee provided participants with opportunities to propel and accelerate towards success. The event aimed to foster synergy among participants besides helping them discover their potential, developing an active mind and lifestyle, learning to take responsibility by being a good leader and follower, broadening their knowledge and exposing them to professional bodies and commercial firms.
Sponsoring the event were The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), KPMG, BDO Malaysia, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and ELK-Desa Resources Berhad. The opening ceremony was graced by Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) Dean Dr Sia Bee Chuan, FAM Department of Accountancy Head K. Shamini, UAS advisor S. Shubatra and UAS co-advisor Lai Siew Fong. Also present during the event were MICPA Eileen Grace Lee, KPMG Danly Sia, BDO Malaysia Lee Hsiao Leng and PwC David Toh.

Organising Chairperson K. Satvinder said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the participants for taking out their semester break to attend the event, sacrificing their days to relax at home and stepping out of their comfort zone.” She proceeded to introduce the different activities planned for the event.
Shubatra said, “I’m proud of the committee for being able to pull off this event despite the many struggles. I would also like to extend my gratitude towards the sponsors for their kind contribution and support for this event.”

Dr Sia welcomed everyone and said, “I encourage all students to seek and tap on opportunities to propel and accelerate towards success.The Accounting Society is a great platform where Accounting-related matters can be discussed and interesting ideas can be introduced while having fun.There is a never-ending wealth of knowledge to learn. This is where your theme ‘Ignite, Propel and Accelerate’ comes into place.”

The event was packed with fun-filled, challenging and interactive activities such as a forum by Grant Thornton, interview session, resume writing and “Do-It-Right” grooming workshop byTalent Plus Consulting Sdn Bhd Bellinda Dika, Jigsaw Race game station, career exhibition, “La Boisson Soir” Networking Night, business simulation game and a debate competition.
The insightful forum gave participants a clear picture on the expectation of becoming an auditor, the challenges faced and solution to overcome the challenges. The event was followed by BizMania 2.0, a business simulation game which tested the knowledge of participants about business in the real world. Participants were taught on planning and implementing strategies as well as decision making.
“Speaker Uppers”, a debate competition was held to train participants’ debating, communication and presentation skills. Judging the competition were FAM lecturers Shubatra, Lai Siew Fong and Tung Soon Theam.
