Exploring career opportunity

The Centre for Extension Education (CEE) organised a talk titled “Diverse Career Opportunities and ACCA Member Experience Sharing” on 11 March 2019 at UTAR Kampar Campus. A total of 167 participants, comprising CEE staff and students, attended the talk.

Invited to deliver the talk were Business Development Manager of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Raymond Chang and Senior Manager of Averis Sdn Bhd Ray Ng Kar Teik.

The talk aimed to enlighten the participants on the diverse career opportunities available with a professional qualification, the ACCA qualification syllabus and exemptions, the salary range of accounting and finance sectors, the requirements to be an official chartered accountant or ACCA member and the recognition of the ACCA qualification around the world.

During the talk, Raymond Chang introduced a programme called ACCA Accelerate Programme to the participants. The briefing aimed to provide the students with a clearer picture of the Accelerate Programme before they sign up for it.

The talk was then continued by Ray Ng, who is also a member of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee and a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). He clarified the difference between accounting, big data, blockchain, auditing, digitalisation, accounting software, tax and finance in the accounting business. As the world of business continues to evolve, he said that the students need to really understand the field they wished to undertake in the future. In addition, he also advised the students to have good qualities and said, “To be an official accountant, a student must have the right mindset and fulfil the requirements according to Accountant Act 1967, registered by Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), before embarking in a professional accounting firm.”

Ray Ng also encouraged the participants to acquire the right knowledge and attitude before entering the workforce. He advised them to adopt good skillsets because the working industry is slowly transforming into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where all the financial system are becoming more innovative; hence future accountants need to utilise and adopt appropriate accounting software to accumulate raw data, financial statement and invoices, forecast revenues, generate variable courses, improve analysis and provide accurate reports.

Meanwhile, CEE Assistant Manager Ho Mei Kei said that the talk would enable the students to get a better understanding of the career opportunities available for them in the future. She also hoped to invite the speakers again for a beneficial sharing session in the future.

The talk ended with the presentation of token of appreciation by Ho to Ray Ng.
