The importance of writing a will was shared at “Write a Will and Set Up a Private Trust to Protect Your Family and Assets” talk held at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 26 February 2019.

The talk was organised by Centre for Extension Education (CEE) and was delivered by Rockwills Senior Professional Estate Planner Alvin Leow with the objectives of giving better insights and clearing doubts related to will and private trust.

With more than 12 years of experience, Leow specialises in will writing and trust guidance service in Malaysia

“The benefit of writing a will is to protect the person who needs it, besides preventing your property from being segmented under the Distribution Act. More importantly, it can benefit family members that have no provision under the law, such as partners and companions,” said Leow.

He went on to explain Distribution Act 1958 (as amended in 1997) and Will Act 1959. With the better understanding of the distribution mechanisms, he disclosed the significant cost of administration fee that a person can avoid by having a will compared to the distribution without a will. Through a will, family members with disabilities or special needs can properly benefit from the deceased.
