Silverlake's hi-hive UTAR Lifestyle Community app seeks to connect people

With the aim to connect and digitise communities across higher education institutions, Silverlake introduced the hi-hive UTAR Lifestyle Community app to its community. This hi-hive app promotes community networking with multiple functionalities for interactive sharing and posting of information among a ready network of members.

A pilot trial was conducted among the UTAR alumni community on 19 January 2019 at Sungai Long Campus. It was held in conjunction with the celebration of Chinese New Year and UTAR Alumni Get Together with President. The second phase of the pilot trial saw a workshop conducted among the members of student clubs and societies and the members of Student Representative Council (SRC) of Sungai Long Campus.

Held on 16 April 2019, the workshop aimed to show and train the representatives of the clubs and societies on how to register, assign admin rights, create sub-groups and post content within the app to streamline and digitise their clubs’ activities such as event announcement, information dissemination, content sharing and membership management. The workshop was conducted by Tan Chor Chen and Tan Chen Yee from Silverlake. Among the participants were representatives from the Dance Club, Wushu Club, Accounting Society, Community Service Society and the SRC.

The hi-hive UTAR Lifestyle Community app is a locally developed app that incorporates similar features to the likes of WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook into one single bundle solution. The app aims to unify all the social activities posted by the UTAR community on multiple social media platforms which otherwise may be difficult to track or manage. Its simple and user-friendly interface allows users to easily create, maintain and personalise this community app to suit users’ preferences.

To further differentiate hi-hive UTAR services from other social media platforms, a multi-tiered community sub-group feature was also developed to enable members to share information, personal experiences and discuss matters organised by topics, much like the Windows folder concept. Individual community’s splash screen can also be personalised to the look and feel of the community’s identity.

Besides being scalable and secured, hi-hive lifestyle community app also includes other digital commerce services to serve the community such as digital wallet, digital marketplace, e-loyalty and digital advertising thus creating a super app solution if there is demand in the future.
