Providing insights into
Hong Leong Group Foundation Scholarship Programme

In collaboration with Hong Leong Assurance Berhad, the Division of Examinations, Awards and Scholarships (DEAS) organised the “Hong Leong Group Foundation Scholarship Program and Career Advancement” at UTAR Kampar Campus on 24 October 2019.

Delivered by Hong Leong Assurance Berhad Agency Area Manager Ivy Nah Ai Wei, the talk aimed to provide an opportunity for the students to explore the available scholarships offered by Hong Leong Group besides motivating them to perform well in their studies.

Ivy Nah said, “In order to ensure success in this current social and economic environment where a degree does not often equate with employment or an ability to be an entrepreneur, the Foundation provides three programmes within the scholarship offer.” She further elaborated, “The enrichment programmes, which come along with the in-house programmes, were designed to provide life skills training. These programmes aimed to instil motivation, confidence and self-belief.”

She also added that the internship placement within the Group’s operating companies included various sectors such as banking and finance, manufacturing, leisure, and property development. She continued to enlighten the participants with the scholars’ talent pathway programmes.

Besides that, Ivy Nah also explained that the Hong Leong Foundation Scholarship was categorised into four categories, namely Scholarship Programme (Degree/Diploma/Advance Diploma), Reach Out and Rise (ROAR), Learn and Earn for Vocational Studies, and career talk, soft skill development, internship, employment and corporate tour. She also listed the eligibility of applicants to apply for the scholarships and explained that their vision is to improve the educational outcomes of the underprivileged family while supporting community development through financial aid.

Further encouraging UTARians in applying for the scholarship, DEAS Assistant Manager Noraidiezwan bin Alias felt that the scholarship offered by Hong Leong Group will be valuable and helpful in reducing the financial burden of UTAR students. “Also, it will be one of the best motivations for the students to perform well in their studies. We hope that students who meet the scholarship requirements will apply for this scholarship,” he added.

The talk then ended with a Q&A session.
