With the aim to keep the
alumni connected with the university and update them on the current
events at the university, Department of Alumni Relations and Placement
(DARP) organised UTAR Alumni Annual Dinner 2019 at Novotel, Melacca on
19 October 2019. Participated by more than 300 participants, the event
was supported by UTAR Alumni Association of Malaysia.
Besides providing a memorable
night of entertaining performance, the event was a great chance for the
alumni to expand their networks of professional contacts, catch up with
their university friends and enhance their connection with each other
through the sharing of their experiences and knowledge.

Prof Ewe explaining the importance of alumni network
Prof Ewe in his welcome speech said, “The alumni network plays an
important part in the university’s development. It is for this reason
that our Department of Alumni Relations and Placement, together with the
UTAR Alumni Association of Malaysia, strive to keep our alumni network
updated and strengthened through various activities and initiatives such
as festive gatherings, career fair, workshops, overseas trips, outdoor
events, local tours and more. Although years have gone by, we have
remained committed to establishing a strong alumni network and I hope
that you will continue to carry the university’s good reputation and
help to share the good word of the university’s development to your
colleagues and own network of contacts.”

Many entertaining events were lined-up for the night, which included a
musical, song and dance performances as well as a stand-up comedy. One
of the performance highlights was the energetic dance that was brought
by the UTAR Dance Club. In a cornucopia of dazzling light and music, the
professional dancers showed off their impressive dance skills on stage
which was followed by a thunderous round of applause from the
participants. There was a lucky draw session held to add excitement to
the event.

A prize-giving ceremony was held for the winners of Charming Uni Suites
Poster Design Contest 2019 by Uni Suites. The event also witnessed the
presentation of mock cheques by the Student Representative Council (SRC)
of UTAR and Uni Suites for the UTAR Hospital project. Uni Suites donated
RM10,000 whereas the SRC donated a total of RM45,615.90. The donation
from SRC was collected from various fundraising activities that were
held throughout the year.

Networking

Prior to the dinner, an alumni badminton friendly match was held to
cultivate the relationship between the alumni and the students. UTAR
Alumni Network Fuses, a time for socialising and mixing, was also
organised for alumni to network and interact with one another from
various industries.
The platinum sponsor of the event was Vistana Jati Sdn Bhd whereas the
diamond sponsor was Protech Builders Sdn Bhd. The gold sponsor was
Silverlake SPRINTS Sdn Bhd, followed by Jabil Sdn Bhd as the ruby
