UTAR
Sungai Long Campus for a study tour. Hosted by UTAR Faculty of
Accountancy and Management (FAM), the tour took place from 11 November
2019 to 18 November 2019.
The group of MBA students from AFEU was led by College of Business
Administration Deputy Dean Prof Zhang Ying and MBA/ MTA Centre Deputy
Director Lin Chuanhong. The eight-day, seven-night study tour saw the
postgraduate students participating in various interesting activities
including educational and cultural tour. The educational tour involved
seminars and talks that were given by lecturers from the Faculty of
Business and Finance (FBF) and FAM. Besides, the AFEU students also
attended FAM Postgraduate Colloquium 2019 and an MBA seminar that was
organised by UTAR. The FAM Postgraduate Colloquium provided a platform
for postgraduate students to present their research and gain feedback
from their respective supervisors and the public. The colloquium
presented an opportunity for the AFEU students to experience the study
life of UTAR postgraduate students.

in Kampar and Kuala Lumpur. The places included Kinta Tin Mining Museum,
Gaharu Tea Valley, Museum and Art Gallery Bank Negara Malaysia and Royal
Selangor Visitor Centre.

Prof Zhang and Lin said, “The FAM Colloquium was good for the students
to know the progress of their work. Since the colloquium was open to all
the students and staff, it provided a good platform for the students to
revise their work based on the comments given during the presentation.”
They both gave good compliments and said that they will consider
implementing a similar approach at AFEU.
Prof Zhang and Lin added, “Our postgraduate students are assessed based
on their CGPA. The CGPA calculation includes both their thesis and
practical assessments. The students must pass their proposal defence and
the title of their thesis must be approved by the university. The
completed thesis must be assessed and approved by the external
examiners, prior to their graduation.” They said that the postgraduate
students in AFEU are assessed differently.
The study tour ended with a closing ceremony and a souvenir exchange
between AFEU and UTAR.
