Collaborating to promote mutual understanding

Delegates from China-Malaysia Sunshine International School of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), China visited Sungai Long Campus on 2 October 2019 to enhance mutual understanding and explore collaborative opportunities. Prior to that, the relationship with XJTU has long been established from the first memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed in 2012. It was then renewed in 2016.

The delegates were China-Malaysia Sunshine International School of XJTU President Zhang Jianfeng, Student Affairs Centre Director Huang Dongxin, Administrator Gu Jiali, Teaching Affairs Centre Deputy Director Wang Wenzhong and Teacher Lei Yudian.

Welcoming them on behalf of UTAR were its Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Yow Ho Kwang, Division of Programme Promotion Director Lee Choy Fong, Centre for Extension Education (CEE) Director Lim Guat Yen, Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) of Sungai Long Campus Head Fook Oi Yee, Institute of Management and Leadership Development Senior Assistant Manager Kok Li Kuan, CEE Assistant Manager Vooi Wen Kei, DSSC of Sungai Long Campus Assistant Manager Lim Jia Jia, and Division of Community and International Networking Assistant Manager Liu Dan.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof Yow proposed several possible programmes for collaboration such as cultural exchange programme, English course and staff exchange programme. He expressed his hope to deepen the two-way interaction. He believes, through collaborative activities, both institutions could mutually benefit and yield fruitful results.

On the other hand, Zhang echoed Prof Yow’s statement to enhance collaboration through short-term courses and industry trip to Malaysia. He expressed his willingness to have greater collaboration with UTAR and cordially invited Prof Yow to visit the Qinzhou industrial park to build a better understanding and friendship between the two institutions.

The discussion subsequently ended with a presentation of souvenir, followed by a group photo session.
