The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Sungai Long Campus conducted an SPM Science Seminar from 28 till 29 September at UTAR Sungai Long Campus for students who were taking up SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination this year. 

The one-and-a-half-day science seminar featured five workshops with three pure sciences and two mathematics subjects. The subjects included physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and additional mathematics.  A total of 14 academic staff from CFS Department of Science and Engineering and 46 UTAR student helpers were involved in the seminar. The SPM Science Seminar aimed to prepare students for the examination and help them achieve their academic goals.

Those who were in charge of teaching mathematics were CFS lecturers Kong Jee Kim and Foo Heng Yen while Catherine See and Khoo Kah Yeang taught additional mathematics.  Lee Cin Dee and Harttini Neeni binti Hatta conducted workshop on biology while Tan Zhen Jee and Actuarial Science student Chew Zhi Jian conducted physics workshop for the students. Chemistry subject was taught by Law Soon Pin and R. Precilla. Those who were involved in the administrative roles were Yeoh Li-Cheng, Teen Soh Hong, Amelia Chiang Kar Mun and Lim Chee Siong.

Two hundred and seventy school students from various states such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan attended this seminar to obtain tips and techniques to answer application-related questions for the SPM examination. Students were given insights on the common mistakes made by past SPM candidates and were told to look out for hot topics, as well as how to tackle tricky questions. Through the seminar, students were able to discuss exam techniques, receive useful tips and strategies in answering questions and be better prepared for their SPM examination.
