The delegates of Guangxi Medical Products Administration (GMPA) visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus from 22 to 25 June 2019. The visit was organised by UTAR Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD). It aimed to study and seek possible collaboration in the areas of Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic regulation and management.
The delegates were GMPA Director Wen Dongxu, Researcher Lu Bingwu, Division of TCMs and Ethno- Medicines Supervision Deputy Director Huang Jie, Administrative Examination and Approval Office Deputy Head Yao Lin and Department of Human Resource Deputy Director Ou Junjun.
The delegates visited the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) and were greeted by Centre for Quality Control Deputy Director Noorul Akmar and team from various departments. During the visit, both parties discussed their experience in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics management and shared good practices in the health care product supervision system. The delegates also extended their invitation towards NPRA to attend the 5th China-ASEAN Drug Cooperation and Development Summit Forum and shared the overview of national innovation drug development.
The delegates then visited the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and were welcomed by Natural Products Director Dr Nor Azah Mohamad Ali, Herbal Product Development Programme Head Ong Boo Kean, Phytochemistry Programme Head Dr Ling Sui Kiong and Biological Resources Programme Head Dr Fadzureena Jamaludin as well as several other senior officers. During the meeting the parties discussed collaboration in the areas of traditional herbal plantation and products.

The following day, the delegates visited UTAR to explore collaborative opportunities on traditional Chinese medicine education and talent development. The delegates were received by Centre for Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine Chairperson Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and IMLD Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu. The meeting held a discussion on the development of Chinese medicine and explored collaboration on the exchange and training programme. The delegates also paid a courtesy call on UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik.
