Webinar collaboration between UTAR and BINUS University

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the international collaboration between universities including physical visit, exchange programme and study tour. With the aim to maintain ties during this pandemic period, UTAR and BINUS University co-organised two webinars related to 3D animation and graphic design on 10 July 2020 via ZOOM Meeting. This would be the first for both universities to kick-start a webinar collaboration.

The webinar collaboration was proposed by BINUS University, Indonesia. It was initiated by UTAR Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet), Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAS) and Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI).

The first webinar titled “3D Computer Modeling and Printing” was conducted by FAS Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Ts Dr Khor Kheng Kia mainly for BINUS students. The webinar saw the presence of 180 staff and students from BINUS University. During the webinar, Dr Khor demonstrated some useful techniques for 3D design and computer modelling. He also explained the role and development of 3D computer modeling and printing in the Industrial Revolution 4.0. One of the students from BINUS, Angeline Agustine said, “It was a great webinar and thanks to Dr Khor, I was able to understand more about 3D development through this webinar.”

The second webinar titled “The Study of Human Anatomy and Proportions” was mainly addressed to UTAR students. The webinar was conducted by Visual Communication Design Department lecturer Yongkie Angkawijaya from BINUS University. He has 10 years of experience in design academia training. “Human Anatomy design is a fundamental part of a drawing,” said Yongkie while he explained the reason for choosing this topic. He then added, “To draw a good artwork or become a good graphic designer, it is essential for one to learn the human anatomy design because it will give a dynamic feeling to the artwork and it would help to identify the good and bad concept of art and animation.”

The two webinars ended with a group photography session between the speakers and the participants.
