Delivering his remarks at the signing ceremony, Prof Ewe said, “UTAR has
always believed in industry collaborations as the way forward for our staff,
students and the University. For education to be truly meaningful and
progressive, we need to extend learning beyond the books, the computer and
the classrooms. Our staff and students, who are also our leaders of
tomorrow, need to gain valuable exposure and exchanges with the industry in
order to widen their horizons and gather important people and communication
skills, in addition to knowledge acquisition.”
He noted that the University has been working with 463 local and
international universities and industry corporations, including significant
universities in Germany, the United States, United Kingdom, China, Hong
Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore, to name a few.
“We believe that good networking among local and international universities
and industry partners will only enhance the achievement of our educational
mission and goals which we share with the rest of the world. Therefore, I am
proud that for the first time, our academics and researchers are
collaborating on such a project with One Doc on Aesthetics related to the
beauty industry,” he said.
Dr Terrence Teoh, on the other hand, said, “This topic is a new research
effort in Malaysia, and we are excited to begin this journey with UTAR in
order to help those who are suffering from this skin disorder. One Doc seeks
to develop an improved technique and solution that can overcome melasma with
the assistance of the University’s expertise. This research about PiscoPulseTM
is highly important to show its effectiveness against melasma.”
He added, “One Doc is a multi-award aesthetic centre in Malaysia, founded in
2016 whereby we specialise in PicoPulseTM treatments. Upon
opening our first branch in 2016, we have expanded to 17 branches
nationwide. Moving forward, we are planning to expand our PicoPulseTM
centres continuously across Southeast Asia for the next few years.”
A presentation on
PicoPulseTM for the treatment of melasma
was also given by
1 Doc Holding Sdn Bhd

The collaborative research has three phases with the initial focus on
melasma. Melasma is a type of skin pigmentation disorder that causes brown
or grey patches to appear on the skin, primarily on the face, especially
among pregnant women. One Doc seeks to develop an improved technique and
solution that can overcome melasma with the assistance of the university's
expertise.
The second phase will move its focus to study on possible solutions of
anti-hair loss among men. Once conclusive studies are derived from these two
phases, it will then initiate the third phase with the focus on product
development.
With this collaboration, One Doc also welcomes students who wish to learn more about aesthetic to intern at their centre.
