Instilling social responsibility awareness among UTAR students

UTAR students hosted a STEM workshop at SJK(C) Khai Mun Repas in Bentong, Pahang on 9 November 2019. The workshop aimed to unleash students’ potential and increase their interest in learning science. The school has currently 106 students. A total of 88 students and 13 teachers participated in the event. 

The objectives of the event were to cultivate primary school students’ interest in subjects such as science and mathematics and to provide them with an opportunity to learn through creative teaching methods and practical way. The event also aimed to get UTAR students out of the University, giving them an opportunity to immerse themselves in community work and to give back to society.

Various interesting activities made the learning lively  

A variety of games and activities, incorporating the principles of science and mathematics, were prepared to motivate and keep all of the students involved and interested. Among the activities were bubble snakes, invisible ink, slimes-making, solitaire math and many more.

In addition, UTAR Department of Chinese Medicine also provided free medical consultation for the public in the hall of the school. Assoc Prof Dr Yang Zao from the Department of Chinese Medicine said that Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was a common form of traditional medical treatment in Malaysia that is recognised by the government. He hoped that organising such an event could promote the development of TCM and serve the needs of people in terms of their health and well-being.
