At the signing ceremony, Prof Ewe
said, “Foon Yew High School is a famous high school in Malaysia and we have
many of their students in UTAR. On behalf of UTAR, I would like to extend my
gratitude towards Prof Jenny and Prof Deva for this kind contribution toward
the students, particularly in encouraging them to do M.B.B.S. programme. I
hope these five fortunate students will do well and complete their studies.
Also, in future, I hope they will help people who are in need as well as
contributing back to UTAR Hospital.”
Prof Jenny in her speech said,
“I’ve always had this desire to help students regardless in big or small
ways. My father was a very good example although he wasn’t a rich man. He
worked hard to help those who were in need. His motivation was always to
educate people around him as he believes that proper education can enable a
person to grow wiser. My intention is to carry on with something that he
would want to do, which is to bring young people up to their maximum
potential.”
Prof Jenny added, "Mr Ng spent his
time and energy in helping the Chinese community and was appointed President
of the Teochew Association in Johor Bahru. He further helped by becoming one
of the founder members of Chinese leaders, who sourced and raised funds to
build the famous Chinese Foon Yew High School, which still proudly stands
