UTAR exposes school children to global issues
UTAR jointly organised a workshop with the teachers from Dong Zeng Temple on 29 February 2020 at Fo Guang Shan Dong Zeng Temple, Selangor. The workshop aimed to enhance the educational experience of school children and educate them on sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs that are associated with water resource and climate change.
The workshop saw the participation of 22 students from both primary and secondary schools. Fun and interesting activities such as creative card games were prepared by UTAR students to encourage the participants to think independently. The workshop also included several outdoor activities which aimed to foster trust among the participants, encourage them to communicate, develop leadership and increase their expression ability. In the expression session, the participants were given the chance to express themselves in creative ways such as writing, speaking and drawing. The activity also saw courageous participants expressing their thoughts through singing which captured everyone’s attention.
UTAR students also made use of the opportunity to teach participants to make water filters with gravel which could turn muddy water into clean water. With the assistance of UTAR students, the participants successfully made the water filters. This activity allowed the participants to experience the process and understand the importance of water resource.
One of the participants Ngang Wei Hao shared his learning outcome with a sustainability drawing. He thanked the organising committee for spending their precious time to explain the SDG information.
