In view of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, Kleenso Resources Sdn Bhd sponsored 44 bottles of hand sanitizer to UTAR to ensure the Campus’ safety. The 44 bottles, consisting of 32 bottles of Kleenso (four litres each) and 12 bottles of Kleenso (500ml each), was distributed at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 3 March 2020. The purpose of this sponsorship is to ensure that the Campus is in a hygienic environment.

Present at the event were Kleenso Resources Sdn Bhd Managing Director Lee Teck Meng, Kleenso Resources Sdn Bhd Personal Assistant to Managing Director Koo Zhan Hao, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, LKC FES Student Development and Industrial Training Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, LKC FES Master of Information Systems Head of Programme Dr Wong Whee Yen, Department of General Services (Sungai Long Campus) Head Foo Cher Siang, Division of Corporate Communication and Public Relations (DCCPR)  Director Ong Soo Weon and DCCPR intern Chan Chin Xiang.

Lee said, “Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus disease, our company has decided to make hand sanitizers for our family, friends and clients. We used Benzethonium Chloride and 25% of alcohol as our main ingredients which are safe to use and also environmentally friendly. Based on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Benzethonium is a synthetic quaternary ammonium salt with surfactant, antiseptic and a broad spectrum of antimicrobial properties. Its salt form, Benzethonium chloride, is primarily used as a skin disinfectant at a concentration of 0.1-0.2 %, which is safe and effective for the compound. It is effective in mediating its antimicrobial action against bacteria, fungi, mould and viruses.”

Prof Goi said, “I do realise that our community is lacking the awareness of washing hands and using hand sanitizer. I hope through this Coronavirus incident, more people would realise the importance of washing hands regularly and being hygienic.”
