UTAR signs MoA with Han Neuro Acupuncture & Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd for a collaborative research

UTAR and Han Neuro Acupuncture & Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on 16 August 2021 via Zoom to carry out a collaborative research on “Analysis of Signs of Palpation-Guided Acupuncture Using Bioelectricity and Ultrasonography”.

The research aims to measure the palpation signs of the head and neck using the ultrasound device on four-dimensional volumetric imaging, tissue elastographic imaging and musculoskeletal ultrasound; and with the use of bio-electrical impedance on the distribution of body composition, Bioelectric Impedance Analysis and Electric Dispersion Analysis.

The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Han Neuro Acupuncture & Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd Director-cum-TCM Practitioner Tham Hui Saan. The signing was witnessed by UTAR Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Director Assoc Prof Dr Yong Thian Khok and Han Neuro Acupuncture & Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd Deputy Director Chan Xian Kang.

Prof Ewe hoping that the MoA will lead to more exciting and mutually beneficial outcomes

In his remarks, Prof Ewe expressed, “I am glad to note that this MoA marks UTAR’s collaboration with Han Neuro Acupuncture and Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd. This initiative of research collaboration between UTAR and Han Neuro Acupuncture and Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd hopes to respond to the academic and community needs. I also believe that the outcome from the research initiatives will respond as a better treatment to the existing acupuncture treatments that we have.” He added, “I am hopeful that this MoA will promote mutual understanding and cooperation, which will lead to more exciting and mutually beneficial outcomes.”

On the other hand, Tham expressed her pleasure to collaborate with UTAR for this meaningful research. She said, “Thank you everyone for sparing your time to attend this event. It is truly a pleasure to be able to collaborate with UTAR for this meaningful research.” She added, “Today will be a momentous day for both Han Neuro Acupuncture & Herbal Specialists Sdn Bhd and UTAR as this collaboration sets a significant milestone for both parties. I believe that the collaboration between us can leverage each other’s strength to achieve evidence-based clinical practice that can subsequently benefit the community.”
