CEO shares the journey of entrepreneurship and the power of social media

UTAR Centre for Corporate and Community Development (CCCD), in collaboration with Des Prix Infinitus Media and Fabulous Sunview Sdn Bhd, organised a webinar titled “Journey of Entrepreneurship and Power of Social Media” on 24 November 2021.

Ong during the webinar

Invited to deliver the webinar was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fabulous Sunview Sdn Bhd Ong Hang Ping. In his talk, Ong first gave an overview of the company background and shared the journey of how it grew into a successful company with multiple recognised awards. “I started my small business in the first year of my university. During my university time, I started managing small businesses like tradings and I took on some part-time jobs to gain some experience. I always look for things to enhance from my previous employments. I started my own business by selling things to students. This is how I started. It didn’t bring me a good result, but it provided me with a good experience,” he said.

Ong said he discovered more about the solar business when he joined the multinational corporation (MNC) as a solar designer. “To start a business, you need some cash flow to run the business,” highlighted Ong as he shared the importance of capital. He explained how he started his business from funding and how he made the idea innovative to this day. “Once you have come up with an idea, put in some innovative features in that idea. Next, you need to consider four things: 1) methodology—you have to come up with a marketing plan or project execution plan; 2) market analysis—you need to do market analysis based on your plan; 3) business model—you may come up with a profit-sharing model; 4) business funding—you need to think about the amount of money you need to push your idea.”

He mentioned that the keys to being successful in entrepreneurship were right timing, right location, right people or relationship. “Without these three things, I wouldn’t say it is impossible to succeed, but it would be slow. With a good business idea and with the addition of these three things, you can expedite your entire business journey,” he explained.

He further explained the DISC leadership styles in entrepreneurship, guiding the participants to identify their leadership styles based on different personality traits. Moreover, he talked about social media and its power in entrepreneurship. “During the Covid-19 pandemic, everything switched to social media. Everything went online from offline,” said Ong, adding that there was still target audiences who preferred the traditional way, such as magazine and newspaper. He also highlighted the importance of business networking, “Mouth to mouth marketing is very important and you cannot achieve it in one day. You need to build up your rapport. You need to do more business matching and networking. Do not limit yourself to social media but also explore your market to know more people.”

The webinar ended with a Q&A session, followed by a photography session.
