Prof Goi is new Vice President (IAD) of UTAR
Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min is the new Vice President of Internationalisation and Academic Development (IAD) of UTAR effective 1 January 2022. Prof Goi assumed the post of Vice President (IAD) after Ir Prof Dr Yow Ho Kwang stepped down from his post as Vice President on 31 December 2021.
UTAR would like to thank Ir Prof Dr Yow Ho Kwang for his dedicated contribution and his unwavering support for the university and its initiatives towards excellence in teaching, research and internationalisation. Prof Yow guided the team of academics throughout the duration of the pandemic as teaching and learning went online for both staff and students. His leadership and his experience helped the academics as they manoeuvred through the challenges during the pandemic. On behalf of the staff and students, UTAR expresses its gratitude to Ir Prof Dr Yow Ho Kwang for his service and his contributions to the university.
Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min is also an engineer by qualification and profession. He graduated from University of Malaya in 1998 with First Class Honours in Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical Engineering, and subsequently graduated from Multimedia University with Master of Engineering Science in 2002, and PhD in Engineering in 2006 from the same university.
Prior to this new appointment, Prof Goi was the Professor and Dean of the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science at UTAR from 2015 to 2021. He was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty from 2010 to 2015. He held the additional position of the Chairperson for the Centre for Healthcare Science and Technology from 2012-2015 in UTAR. He was also the Head of programme for PhD in Engineering in 2010.
Prof Goi is an expert in the area of cryptology, which is the underpinning technique in digital security services. Since 2001, he has designed and implemented secure efficient cryptographic algorithms and cryptanalyzed several published cryptographic schemes. He managed to merge and integrate various techniques to propose new variant of security techniques. He also uses his engineering knowledge and skills on embedded systems design and telecommunication to examine security aspects, design and implementation of security algorithms, smart expert and communication networking systems.
Prof Goi also shares his knowledge and his expertise through his engagement as a consultant and panellist in various organisations such as the Panel Expert for the Development of a National Cryptology Policy, Cyber Security Malaysia and Malaysian Society for Cryptology Research (MSCR), and Technical Committee member on Information Security and Smartcard in SIRIM (TC5).
He was an Editorial Board member for various international journals and was often invited as Technical Program Chair for many reputable international conferences. He also collaborates for research with MIMOS, MMU and international research institutes from Korea, China, Japan, USA, Singapore and New Zealand. His research outcomes have been published and presented in high-impact journals and conferences. He has published more than 160 technical papers, which includes 90 journal papers, cited in Scopus -1400 and h-index of 19.
In 2018, Prof Goi was awarded Fellow of the Academy of Science, Malaysia (ASM). In 2014, he was awarded Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) by the Academy of Science, Malaysia. He is a Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was the Vice-President of the Malaysian Society for Cryptology Research from 2014-2016.
