The cooperation ties between
UTAR and the Royal Institution of
Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) was extended once more when a memorandum of
cooperation renewal (MoC) was signed by both parties.
The MoC virtual signing ceremony took place via Zoom
on 10 March 2021 with the participation of six other partner universities,
namely Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti
Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Tun
Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Taylor’s University.
The MoC was signed in advance by UTAR President Ir
Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat and RISM Hon Secretary General Sr Dainna Baharuddin. It
was witnessed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic
Development Ir Prof Dr Yow Ho Kwang and RISM Chair of University Partnering
Committee Sr Dr Zainal A Majeed. During the virtual ceremony, Prof Ewe was
represented by Prof Yow.
Also present at the virtual ceremony were RISM
President Dato’ Sr Thiruselvam Arumugam, RISM Chair of Universities’
Partnering Committee Datuk Sr Paul Khong Poh Yew, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of
Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, LKC FES
Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Ts Dr Lee Kim
Yee, LKC FES Head of Surveying Department Dr Felicia Yong Yan Yan and
representatives from UM, USM, UTM, UiTM, UTHM and Taylor’s University.
The MoC aimed to record the principal points of
agreement between UTAR and RISM in relation to co-operation and
collaboration in programmes and activities relating to build environment and
education of benefit to all surveyors including geomatics and land
surveyors; building surveyors, quantity surveyors, and property consultants
and valuation surveyors.
Prof Yow expressed, “On behalf of UTAR, I would like
to express our sincere gratitude to RISM for your continued support to UTAR.
With this collaboration, we truly believe, together we can build a better
environment and education to benefit all surveyors including geomatics and
land surveyors, building surveyors, quantity surveyors, and property
consultants and valuation surveyors. We are indeed very honoured to be part
of this signing ceremony. I look forward to progressing our partnership with
mutually beneficial outcomes in the near future.”
Extending his gratitude, Dato’ Sr Thiruselvam said,
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who had
supported and contributed to RISM all this while for all the collaborations
and conferences. This is the first time we are having a virtual signing due
to the current pandemic. I would like to note that we have successfully
together with all the partner universities, organised quite a number of
conferences which were participated by students and graduates. It gave them
a platform to have an open dialogue with the industry players. Lastly, RISM
will certainly ensure the best effort to maintain these collaborations in
the future.”
Datuk Sr Paul enthused, “Today’s signing ceremony is
certainly a privilege for us to partner with all the established
universities that are here today. The ceremony this year is an important
milestone for a journey of strong and fruitful collaboration between these
two parties. RISM is looking forward to work with all the partner
universities to develop and promote the surveying profession further, learn
from each other and serve the society at large for the betterment of the
surveying company.”
The MoC signing ceremony then moved on with the signing session with each university and ended with a group photography session.
