Fuji Electric Executive Director shares working experience

UTAR Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) organised a webinar titled “New Norms Are Here To Stay” via Microsoft Teams on 19 March 2021.

The webinar aimed to educate the students on how Covid-19 has affected the manufacturing sector and the challenges it has to overcome. The students were also inspired by the speaker’s personal experience.

Invited to deliver the talk was Fuji Electric (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Executive Director Chong Nee Hwa.

According to Chong, he started his career as a young manufacturing engineer at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Penang in 1984. He said, “I had 12-and-a-half years of tenure with AMD. Throughout the working years, I grew progressively from an engineer to a facility Senior Manager. In 1997, I left AMD for a new challenge at Fuji Electric Malaysia in Kulim Hi-Tech Park (Kulim Kedah) where I started as a pioneer senior management team member. Then, I spent seven months, training in Japan and returned to Malaysia for the new start-up magnetic media manufacturing facility.”

He added, “Since then, I contributed extensively to the expansion and growth of the magnetic media manufacturing facility. I subsequently held various positions in the organisations. My background in engineering, manufacturing as well as managing both local and expatriate teams have helped me in leading Fuji Electric Malaysia as its executive director.”

During his talk, he also presented the history and development of Fuji Electric (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as well as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the manufacturing sector. He shared his experience in adjusting to and facing the pandemic.

The webinar ended with a Q&A session between the speaker and the participants.
