Guests after the opening ceremony
UTAR and Nanhua University, Taiwan jointly organised the Life Education Webinar Series in the month of November and December with an effort to promote life education.
Event partners who also joined the effort were I Culture Bhd (文化理想企业), NV Foundation (富贵爱心基金会), Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia (YBBM) (马来西亚佛教基金会) and the Department of Chinese Literature and Application of Fo Guang University (佛光大学中国文学与应用学系).

The first webinar was held in conjunction with the event’s opening ceremony on 5 November 2021. Nanhua University President Prof Lin Tsong-Min, who was one of the special guests for the opening ceremony, delivered the first webinar titled “Life education will become a prominent learning (生命教育将成为显学)”.
In his opening remarks, Prof Lin mentioned that Nanhua University has promoted life education cross-strait since 2017. He said, “In the future, Nanhua University will continue to promote life education to a higher level. We will integrate Taiwan’s experience in promoting life education with international, and at the same time, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to deepen life education and move towards sustainable development.”
The opening ceremony also witnessed UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, YBBM Chairman Dato’ Ir Ang Choo Hong, NV Foundation Vice Chairman Tan Kean Huat and I Culture Bhd Executive Director Tan Hui Sean delivering speeches.
Prof Ewe said, “The webinar series, which is closely related to life education, cover topics such as the exploration and development of meaning in life; how to boost positivity in life; heart management and life exploration; turning life into a bright future; when life comes to an end, as well as a talk on traditional Chinese medicine for elderly. I hope that the participants will gain a better understanding of life education.”
Prof Ewe is one of the speakers for the webinar series. He will give a talk on “Life Education: The Power of Good” on 10 December 2021.
On the other hand, Dato’ Ir Ang mentioned that both religion and philosophy emphasise life education. “But in the process of dissemination, the characteristics of life education are often diluted and vagued,” he said. He pointed out that religions nowadays are more concerned with the implementation of rituals and the observance of dogmas rather than the exploration of life.
He added, “YBBM is honoured to have this opportunity to join the effort with universities and organisations to promote such activity. We hope that our efforts can make life education widespread and push it to a higher level.”
Dato’ Ir Ang will also give a talk on “Life Growth: My Life in Buddhism” on 17 December 2021.
Tan Kean Huat said, “We hope that this joint effort with various universities could enhance everyone’s understanding of life, especially in the current world that is shrouded by the pandemic. It shows a need for exploring more on life topics. I hope that the Life Education Webinar Series will be able to deepen and enhance everyone's view about life.”
In her remarks, Tan Hui Sean introduced the objective and the vision of I Culture Bhd and shared various activities and poverty alleviation plans. She said, “Life education can promote the energy cycle of goodwill. We welcome everyone to join our team and work together to create a better society.”
The webinar series, featuring nine speakers from Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines, will be conducted via Zoom every Friday night from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The webinar can be registered through bit.ly/3BWCJpp.
