Virtual campaign for primary school students

The Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) of Sungai Long Campus worked together with a group of UTAR students to organise an event called “UTAR ‘We Care We Act’ Virtual Motivational Campaign”. The campaign was held on 2 October 2021 from 2pm to 3:30pm for a group of primary school students from San Hao Xue Tang, Jenjarom, Selangor.

The virtual campaign was led by DSSC staff Choon Wen Kie along with a group of six UTAR students, namely Ang Lin, Ngu Jing Wen, Leong Zhui Shen, Lee Xin Ci, Tan Xing Yun and Ong Ji Wern.

The campaign officially started with a short briefing on rules and regulations as well as team distribution. There was a total of two groups which were named “Xin Bao” and “Huan Bao” respectively. Next, an ice-breaking activity titled ‘Reserve” was carried out whereby students were required to use “a, e, i, o and u” to complete the given words. The second activity was called “Scavenger Hunt”. During this activity, students were given one minute to search for the items requested. The ice-breaking session was indeed successful as the students were able to warm up and almost all of them actively participated in the games.

During Group Activity 1, “Zoom In and Zoom Out”, most of the participants were able to answer the facilitators correctly despite having the pictures zoomed in. They were brave to speak out and ask the facilitators about the words that they were not familiar with. In Group Activity 1, group Xin Bao (four points) emerged as the winner as they garnered more points compared to group Huan Bao (two points).

Group Activity 2 was named “Tic-Tac-Toe”. This activity required students to answer questions and collect points along the way. The group that gained the most points started to answer the questions. The winner of this activity was group Xin Bao who collected a total of eight marks while the other group collected seven marks. All students actively participated in Group Activity 3 “Plant Your Seed”. They were given about four weeks to record the growth of their plants.

At the end of the event, Venerable You Qing, the person in charge of San Hao Xue Tang, made a brief comment about the event. After taking some group photos and delivering the closing speech, the campaign officially ended.
