Donation of Wheelchairs to UTAR Hospital

Mr Lim Chin Hua, Executive Chairman of Konwa Industrial Sewing Machine, donated RM20,000 today for the purchase of wheelchairs for UTAR Hospital.

Mr Lim is also the Honorary President of The Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia and the Federation of Malaysia Lim Association. He visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus and handed over a cheque for RM20,000 to UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat. Also present was Datuk Lim Si Cheng who engaged the support of Mr Lim Chin Hua to donate to the Hospital. Datuk Lim is a member of the University Council and member of the Hospital Fundraising Committee. Datuk Lim also handed over another cheque for RM 5,000 from his friend for the purchase of wheelchairs.

The hospital, which is located at Kampar in Perak, is estimated to cost about RM330 million. The Hospital construction project is expected to be completed in the second half of next year and will be operational in early 2023. The Hospital TCM Block is near completion and the Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM) services are scheduled to commence in February 2022.

Prof Ewe said that the University Council supported and approved the establishment of the UTAR Hospital in Kampar Campus which will provide quality and affordable medical and health services for the local and surrounding communities. The Hospital will also provide clinical training for the MBBS, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Health Science students with the aim to cultivate talents in the medical field for the country.

Prof Ewe pointed out that UTAR Hospital will consist of 250 beds for Western Medicine and 100 beds for TCM and a future phase of additional 250 beds. In addition, the hospital will also offer medical and non-medical support, as well as research and education facilities.

Due to the huge cost, which is about RM 330 million, the University Council and the Board of Trustees requested the public to donate generously in support of the Hospital.  

Prof Ewe and Datuk Lim expressed their appreciation to Mr Lim Chin Hua for his support and donation and hope that he can continue to contribute to the hospital in the future.
