UTAR welcomes students back to Campus

UTAR students were allowed to return to campus in stages from 18 October 2021 onwards. The entrance permission is only given to fully vaccinated students and staff. The University came up with the campus access guidelines for students to ensure safety within the campus. Students are required to strictly comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain a safe and healthy campus community. The teaching and learning are carried out via hybrid and online modes.

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education student Eunice Liew Jun Xin said, “I am aware of the government’s and the University’s latest announcement that only fully vaccinated students are allowed on campus. The University has the procedure to ensure that students who are back on campus are in a safe environment.”

Winnie Gan Yong Wei who is currently studying Foundation in Arts (Management and Accountancy Stream) said, “I have attended the e-orientation which was conducted this month. It is my first tutorial and I’m excited to be joining the class physically.”

Foundation in Arts (Arts and Social Science Stream) students Lim Lei Ting shared, “Today is my first day in Sungai Long Campus. The University provides adequate facilities that allow students to study in a safe and peaceful environment. I like to study in UTAR library as it provides me with a conducive environment for better learning.”

Foundation in Arts (Accounting and Management) student B. Mahadhevan said, “I feel excited to be on campus. Despite the ongoing Covid-19 situation, I feel like everything is finally settling down and this has become a new norm for me. Also, I have always preferred physical classes over online classes. During physical classes, I have the chance to interact with others face to face and work in a team. I am pretty satisfied with the University’s SOPs. I believe it is important to follow the SOPs so that we can avoid contracting the disease.”

Master of Engineering Science student Yau Zhi Yong said, “I am only having research classes currently and today is my first day here on campus. However, based on my previous experience being an undergraduate I have always preferred online classes over physical classes. Due to the current situation, I actually feel safer having classes at home. But since we need to conduct experiments and hands-on activities, physical classes would be better. In terms of the SOPs, I am satisfied because UTAR follows the SOPs set by the government.”

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechanical Engineering student Chai Wei Cheng shared, “I think both online and physical classes have their pros and cons. Sometimes when I have online classes I would feel physical classes are better because I can use the laboratory for experiments. I am glad that UTAR gives priority to the SOPs. I like the fact that they sanitise the campus frequently to make the campus a safer place for us. The students here also comply with the SOPs by maintaining social distancing.”

Bachelor of Science (Honours) Biomedical Science student Lee Shuet Yi said, “Today is my first day on campus after the government’s recent announcement. I am very excited to be able to return to the campus and continue my final year project while conducting experiments in labs.”

Bachelor of Economics (Honours) Financial Economics student G. Subanan said, “I am from Selangor and today is my first day on campus after completing my two past trimesters through online classes. I am very excited to be in Kampar Campus as a student. It is very quiet for the moment, but I look forward to good campus life in time to come.”

Bachelor of Science (Honours) Chemistry student Eric Chin Yuan Kuang shared, “I am currently doing my internship at UTAR Faculty of Science. It is good to see the students getting back to Campus slowly. I am also happy to be able to conduct my experiments and my final year project in the Chemistry lab.”
