Experts in accounting and auditing shared their
wisdom to more than 100 students, staff and guests of the
Faculty of Accountancy and Management
(FAM) at the webinar titled “A virtual walk with Accounting & Auditing
Experts” held on 23 July 2021.
Organised by FAM Accountancy Department, the
webinar aimed to provide guidance and ensure Accounting undergraduates
acquire appropriate professional competencies to qualify as chartered
accountants in Malaysia. Other than that, the webinar served to provide an
understanding on the impacts of technology in the auditing profession and
the role of internal auditors in the area of fraud and risk management.
The webinar kicked off with a briefing on the
pathway to become a certified internal auditor by Institute of Internal
Auditors (MIA) (M) Manager of Membership & Certification Vasugi Subramaniam.
The webinar was then continued by Telekom Malaysia Bhd Chief Internal
Auditor Haikel Ismail who shared his experiences and views in facing the
challenges as an internal auditor as well as the objectivity and
independence of an internal auditor. KPMG Malaysia Senior Manager Lim Yin
Wen also shared her thoughts on real-life examples of the impacts of
technology on auditing practices. KPMG Malaysia Talent Management Consultant
Anil Nair briefed the audiences on internship programmes and opportunities
at the organisation. As professional competencies are important for the
students, MIA Head of
Competency Framework and Development Leong Mun Foong shared his insights on
the areas that need to be acquired in the working environment over the
period of three years upon graduation.
The webinar received a good response from the attendees and the
Accountancy Department is
expected to organise more webinars of this kind in the future.
