Value Your Values – Align Personal Values to be fully engaged with what you do
UTAR Centre for Corporate and Community Development hosted a webinar titled Value Your Values – Align Personal Values to be Fully Engaged with What You Do on 18 March 2022 via Zoom. The webinar aimed to help participants conquer their workplace anxieties and grow their careers. The invited speaker was Chokmun Soong, a qualified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) coach and an NLP trainer accredited by the NLP Association of Australia. Chokmun is also a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
Chokmun explained about values in the one-hour webinar. “Our sense of right and wrong is reflected in our values. They aid our growth and development. They also assist us in shaping the future we desire,” he said. Chokmun stated that the decisions we make every day are the reflection of our ideals.
Speaking of how values are formed, Chokmun said, “We learn the majority of our values from our parents and extended families. Our family values are influenced by our social and cultural values. New life experiences can sometimes cause us to reconsider the values we previously held.”
Individual values, according to him, reflect how one lives their life and what one considers important for their self-interest. Individual values include enthusiasm, creativity, humility and the sense of personal accomplishment.
He also stated that relationship values reflect how one interacts with others in their lives, such as friends, family, teachers, managers, and so on. Relationship values include openness, trust, generosity and concern. Social values, on the other hand, reflect how one interacts with others; justice, freedom, respect, community and responsibility are examples of social values.
The session concluded with a group photo session.
